The Omni-Pad has been designed to give the
Omni user "Live - On the Fly" control of up to sixty-four Omni events via MIDI.
Following in the Omni tradition, totally flexible programming allows any events -- a
Scene, a Chase, or an entire Show -- to be assigned to any button. Titles of each event
can be hand-written on the erasable Omni-Pad overlay, which compliments the Omni's RS232
port for uploading and downloading data via the Omni PC
Link software.
The Omni-Pad is divided into two main areas. The bottom two-thirds of the unit has a LED matrix of four rows by twelve columns, following the four track conecpt of Omni's Show Mode. Locations on the matrix are accessed by pressing a lettered button (labelled A through D) then a number (1 through 12), coinciding with the respective position on the matrix. Pressing the same two buttons turns off the event.
The Override section at the top of the unit is used to do just that -- override the bottom section. There are eight Override buttons with Flash and Latch options for each. When the Override is activated, the Omni-Pad sends information to turn off all currently active events and turn on that Override event. If the Flash part of the override switch is pressed, it will stay active until the button is released; events active before the Override was pressed will resume. The Latch option works the same, but with the added ability to reprogram the bottom section, displaying the new events when the Override is deactivated.
The Omni-Pad can be set to any MIDI channel and has both an In and a Thru connection. Two Omni-Pads can be connected to an Omni, giving a total of 128 available events and allowing the Omni to be controlled from two seperate locations.
